Keti Bandar is located in Thatta district in Sindh. It lies in the Indus River Delta, where the river reaches the Arabian Sea.
The project aims to develop Keti Bandar into a modern deep-sea port. It also seeks to establish an economic corridor in the region.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah recently directed the Sindh Investment Department to prepare a detailed plan. The plan will use a Public-Private Partnership model for the port.
He said the project could attract both local and international investors. He also expressed confidence that investors would show strong interest.
According to the chief minister, the Keti Bandar maritime, fisheries and petroleum corridor could attract billions of dollars.
The proposed development will include several major facilities. These will include a modern fishing harbour and seafood processing units.
The project will also feature petroleum terminals to support the energy sector. These facilities are expected to encourage industrial activity in the region.
The first phase will focus on building mini fish harbours. These facilities will be developed at Keti Bandar and Shah Bandar.
The mini harbours will include auction halls, cold storage facilities and docking areas. These facilities will support the fishing and seafood industries.
The second phase will focus on developing a full commercial deep-sea port. The facility is expected to strengthen maritime trade and economic activity.
President Zardari also reviewed the broader economic potential of the project. The development could create employment opportunities for local communities.
The project is also expected to support industrial growth and increase foreign investment. Improved port facilities could strengthen trade and business activity in Sindh.
The government is now working on the development framework for Keti Bandar. Further progress will depend on planning, investment and implementation of the proposed project.
