A judicial magistrate has granted a three-day physical remand of private hospital CEO Shaukat Ali Bangash. The case involves alleged violations of laws governing human organ transplantation.
Judicial Magistrate Adnan Rashid issued the order after hearing arguments from both sides. The FIA had requested a 14-day physical remand to continue its investigation into the allegations.
FIA Investigates Alleged Organ Transplant Violations
According to the Federal Investigation Agency, Bangash is accused of violating legal provisions related to human organ transplantation.
Investigators told the court that the inquiry had revealed alleged commercial interests connected with the transplantation process.
The agency said further investigation was required to examine these allegations and determine the roles of those involved. Authorities are also examining financial transactions allegedly connected with the case.
Rs. 13.3 Million Transaction Under Investigation
The FIA claimed that Rs. 13.3 million was transferred from an agent’s account. According to investigators, the money was transferred to the account of the private hospital.
The agency said the transaction raised questions about financial arrangements linked with the case. Investigators want to determine the purpose of the payment and establish the circumstances surrounding the transaction.
The agency sought 14 days of physical custody to investigate the financial trail. It also wants to determine Bangash’s alleged role and identify other individuals who may have been involved.
Defence Opposes Physical Remand
Bangash’s lawyer opposed the request for physical remand during the court proceedings. The defence asked the court to discharge Bangash from the case.
His counsel argued that the allegations were insufficient to justify keeping his client in physical custody. The court heard arguments presented by both the prosecution and defence before announcing its decision.
According to the court’s observation, the allegation against Bangash appeared prima facie correct. The magistrate also found that further investigation was required.
However, the court did not approve the full 14-day remand requested by investigators.
Instead, Judicial Magistrate Adnan Rashid granted a three-day physical remand. Bangash was subsequently handed over to the FIA for further investigation.
The agency is expected to use the remand period to examine the alleged transactions and other evidence. Investigators will also seek to determine whether other individuals played a role in the alleged violations.
