The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a contempt plea in the Supreme Court. The party challenged the government’s failure to shift Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital.
The petition was filed on Saturday. It names Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and senior federal ministers as respondents.
PTI asked the Supreme Court to issue show-cause notices to those allegedly responsible. The party also requested Imran Khan’s immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital.
The contempt plea further seeks the appointment of a judicial officer. The officer would monitor implementation of the Supreme Court’s directions.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja spoke after filing the petition. He alleged that the decision not to shift Imran Khan was deliberate.
Raja rejected claims about security concerns or gatherings by PTI supporters. He said there was no valid reason to prevent the transfer.
According to Raja, the apex court order was deliberately violated. He said the party had gathered evidence before submitting the contempt plea.
He also urged the nation to look toward the Supreme Court for justice. Raja said the court’s response would be important in the matter.
The Supreme Court had earlier ordered Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital. The direction followed concerns about his health, especially his eyesight.
A three-member bench issued the order. Justice Shahid Wahid headed the bench, alongside Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim.
The court directed authorities to arrange a complete medical examination. It also ordered that a medical board conduct the required tests at Shifa Hospital.
Imran Khan’s personal physicians, Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Uzma Khan, were included in the medical arrangements. An eye specialist and general physician were also to join the board.
The court’s order followed medical concerns raised during proceedings. Jail authorities had reported improvement in Imran Khan’s right-eye condition.
The report stated that his vision was almost normal after treatment at PIMS. PTI rejected that assessment and continued demanding treatment at Shifa.
The Supreme Court also allowed Imran Khan to meet family members once weekly. It warned that the permission could be withdrawn if misused.
The court directed that there should be no political activity surrounding his hospital transfer. PTI had also assured the court that workers would not gather outside the hospital.
The government had objected to moving Imran Khan to the hospital. The additional attorney general raised concerns during the proceedings.
The court included the government’s objection in its order. The hearing was later adjourned until September 16.
The latest contempt plea comes amid continued disagreement over Imran Khan’s medical treatment. PTI maintains that his personal doctors should supervise his care.
The Supreme Court had also sought his complete medical records. It requested information about meetings with his sisters and phone calls with his sons.
PTI lawyer Uzair Bhandari had raised concerns about Imran Khan’s access to family members. He also requested a comprehensive medical examination.
The court questioned officials about his medical monitoring. An advocate general said three doctors examined Imran Khan daily.
Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan stressed the importance of constant blood pressure monitoring. The bench also discussed his family meetings.
The latest contempt plea now places the dispute before the Supreme Court again. The court will determine whether its earlier directions were properly implemented.
