Protests organized by the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) have brought Karachi’s traffic to a standstill, as sit-ins against the ongoing crisis in Parachinar, Kurram district, continued into Friday. The protests, which began on Thursday, have caused severe traffic disruptions across the city, affecting key roads and leading to chaos during rush hour.
The demonstrations are in response to the unrest in Parachinar, where over 130 people have reportedly died, including over 100 children due to a shortage of medicine. However, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, has denied reports of child fatalities, calling them baseless.
In Karachi, major routes such as MA Jinnah Road at Numaish Chowrangi, Sharea Faisal, and parts of the National Highway remain blocked, with traffic being diverted through alternative routes. Commuters have been advised to avoid affected areas and use alternate paths as authorities try to manage the situation.
Addressing protesters at Numaish Chowrangi, MWM leader Allama Hasan Zafar Naqvi urged the government to act swiftly in restoring peace to Parachinar, criticizing the state’s lack of attention to the suffering families in the region. The protests show no sign of easing, adding to the city’s growing traffic woes.
