Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday said the repatriation of Afghan nationals is being successfully implemented in three provinces of Pakistan. He emphasized that Afghan nationals are being provided protection, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Mohsin Naqvi warned that no province should enforce its own policy over national security. He said the KP government has been repeatedly instructed to prioritize the country’s safety over political interests.
The minister clarified that provincial authorities must implement the federal government’s directives. Any attempt to follow its own policy without coordination with Islamabad will not be tolerated.
He added that although the federal government has de-notified all Afghan camps, several camps in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have not yet been closed. This delay, he stressed, shows the risks of allowing a province to operate under its own policy instead of federal guidelines.
Mohsin Naqvi also highlighted recent terrorist attacks in which Afghan nationals were reportedly involved. He warned that such incidents will not be allowed in the future and stressed that national security is a top priority.
The interior minister urged provincial governments to fully cooperate with federal authorities for safe and organized repatriation of Afghan nationals. He emphasized that coordination between federal and provincial agencies is essential to prevent security lapses.
He concluded by reiterating that Pakistan’s safety must come before politics. Provinces cannot adopt its own policy in matters of national importance, and strict compliance with federal directives is mandatory.
This statement comes amid ongoing discussions over the management of Afghan nationals in Pakistan, aiming to balance humanitarian obligations with national security concerns.
