The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a new initiative to help overseas Pakistanis prevent mobile SIM problems. The program aims to keep SIM cards secure and avoid any potential blocking during stays abroad.
In a social media announcement, the PTA said the initiative ensures uninterrupted telecom services for the Pakistani diaspora. Subscribers can protect their SIM cards for a specific period by notifying their cellular company and paying applicable fees. This measure allows overseas Pakistanis to maintain access to calls, messages, and mobile data.
Guidelines for Subscribers
Prepaid Customers
The PTA advises prepaid users to use their mobile services at least once every 180 days. This can include making a call, sending an SMS, or using mobile data. Regular usage helps prevent mobile SIM deactivation.
Postpaid Customers
Postpaid users must pay their monthly line rent and any outstanding dues on time. Failure to do so may result in service suspension or blocking of the SIM.
The PTA also warned consumers about scams involving fake calls and UAN numbers. Scammers have been impersonating PTA, FIA, and banks. The authority emphasized that no government organization will ever ask for OTPs, PINs, ID numbers, or biometric data. Users are advised to verify any requests only through official government channels.
Previously, the PTA stressed responsible SIM usage. Citizens are urged to use only SIM cards issued in their name. Using SIMs registered under someone elseโs identity violates telecom regulations. The registered subscriber remains fully responsible for all calls, messages, and data usage on their number.
This initiative makes it easier for overseas Pakistanis to prevent mobile SIM issues and maintain uninterrupted communication with family and friends in Pakistan. By following PTA guidelines and using SIM cards responsibly, users can avoid legal and financial complications.
The PTAโs efforts highlight the importance of safe and responsible mobile usage while ensuring that Pakistani citizens abroad stay connected without interruption. This step reinforces the authorityโs commitment to protecting consumers and promoting secure telecom practices.
