Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed on Tuesday that there is no question of withdrawing the party’s planned protest on Thursday, February 8. He made the remarks while speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, emphasizing that the call for the protest remains valid.
Gohar Ali Khan criticized the current political system, saying that neither a “new Pakistan” had been created nor the old system restored. He described the hybrid model as a failure and urged those able to arrange a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan to do so. He also stated that recent operations in Tirah should be viewed as a narrative battle, not politicized, warning that terrorism has previously benefited from internal divisions.
The PTI chairman expressed concern over reports that Imran Khan is suffering from an eye infection. He stressed that family visits should not be politicized and noted that public demonstrations, including the upcoming protest, often reflect the inactivity of institutions, including the judiciary. He questioned whether political issues would be resolved by February 9 if talks remain stalled until February 8.
Gohar Ali Khan confirmed that Imran Khan had appointed Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir to lead negotiations. These leaders will decide when and with whom to engage. He reiterated that the February 8 protest would not be canceled and called for restraint in public language, urging all sides to avoid abusive or provocative remarks.
Addressing statements made by KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi regarding potential talks between provincial and federal governments, Barrister Gohar said no negotiations can occur with parties that employ violence. He emphasized the need for a clear narrative and for involving the provincial assembly to prevent confusion, which he said could strengthen terrorists’ messaging. He also added that he would not meet Imran Khan alone.
