Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and allied opposition parties on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The memorandum was addressed to Chief Justice Justice Yahya Afridi, raising concerns over alleged violations of the rule of law and denial of justice to PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The memorandum was formally submitted to the Registrar of the Supreme Court, seeking immediate access for Imran Khan to his family, lawyers, doctors, and friends. PTI claimed that his rights as a prisoner and a human being have been repeatedly ignored.
According to the memorandum, Imran Khan has faced extended denial of visitation, which PTI described as forced isolation. The party said this treatment amounts to torture under both international law and Pakistan’s legal framework.
The document also stated that orders issued by higher courts, particularly the Islamabad High Court (IHC), have been disregarded. PTI alleged that repeated petitions requesting contempt proceedings were ignored, with the IHC refusing to enforce its own orders.
PTI further noted that an appeal filed before the Supreme Court challenging the IHC’s inaction was returned, instructing them to approach the Federal Constitutional Court. Despite filing the petition there, no hearing has been scheduled for months, the memorandum said.
The party criticized the delay in hearing applications for the suspension of sentences against Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, calling it oppressive. The memorandum also mentioned that his family was kept uninformed about his health, and a doctor from PIMS only examined him after his condition worsened. Reports suggest he underwent a hurried and secretive medical procedure on January 26, 2026.
PTI urged the Chief Justice to intervene urgently. The party requested immediate steps to restore the rule of law and protect human rights in Pakistan. This is the second time this week that PTI submits a memorandum to highlight the alleged mistreatment of Imran Khan and call for legal action.
Observers say the development underscores growing political tensions and concerns over prisoners’ rights in Pakistan. PTI emphasized that swift action is needed to prevent further violation of constitutional and human rights.
