PTI leaders have urged the Chairman of the Senate to issue the notification for the Opposition Leader in the upper house by Thursday.
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan told ARY News that he has not been authorized to hold talks regarding the position. He said it is the discretion of Mahmood Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas to lead any dialogue in a specific direction.
Gohar Ali Khan also denied the existence of any forward block within PTI, emphasizing unity within the party regarding the Opposition Leader post.
Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser said it is the speaker’s discretion to notify the Opposition Leader whenever he deems appropriate. He added, “Hopefully, there will be no further delay in the appointment.”
The PTI has been emphasizing timely notification to ensure that the opposition in the Senate can perform its duties effectively. Officials said that a delay could hinder parliamentary processes and affect legislative oversight.
Observers noted that the appointment of the Opposition Leader is a key procedural step, as the position plays a crucial role in representing dissenting voices and maintaining checks on government policies.
