‘PTI Worker’ Killed After Opening Fire on Security Forces Near GHQ, Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI – An armed man was killed by security forces after an alleged attack on security personnel in Rawalpindi. The incident took place on Mall Road on Tuesday.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar claimed that the suspect was affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He made the claim in a statement shared by state broadcaster Pakistan Television (PTV).

According to Tarar, security personnel came under fire while deployed on Mall Road. He alleged that the attacker was a PTI worker.

The minister said authorities found a PTI party flag and other documents with the suspect. He also claimed that the recovered material indicated a connection with the political party.

The suspect was identified as Muhammad Hussain. He was reportedly a resident of Khyber district.

According to reports, Hussain opened fire on security personnel during the incident. Security forces responded to the attack and killed the suspect at the scene.

Local media reports said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the deceased. Authorities also reportedly found a PTI party flag and other important documents.

The claims about the suspect’s political affiliation have not been independently verified. PTI has also not issued a response to the allegation so far.

The incident occurred amid heightened political tensions across Pakistan. PTI has remained at the centre of several political developments and public rallies in recent months.

The alleged involvement of a PTI worker in the Rawalpindi shooting could attract further political attention. However, the available reports do not establish the motive behind the attack.

Authorities are expected to examine the recovered weapons and documents as part of their investigation. Further details about the incident may emerge as the inquiry progresses.

The shooting has also raised questions about security arrangements in Rawalpindi. Mall Road is an important route in the city and has a significant security presence.

Officials have yet to provide a detailed account of the circumstances leading to the exchange of fire. It also remains unclear whether the suspect acted alone.

For now, the claim that the deceased was a PTI worker remains an allegation. Any further confirmation will depend on findings from the ongoing investigation.
