LAHORE โ€“ Public Transport Disruptions Continue Between Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi

Public travel between major cities has been affected as public transport services from Lahore to Islamabad and Rawalpindi remain partially suspended. The disruption has caused difficulties for daily passengers and long-distance travelers.

Transport operators confirmed that buses using the motorway route to Islamabad are currently not operating. Many of these vehicles are parked at depots. They are waiting for permission to resume services.

The suspension has reduced available public transport options for commuters. Travelers are facing delays and longer travel times due to limited alternatives.

On the GT Road route, some buses are still reaching Rawalpindi. However, their movement is restricted. These buses are not allowed to enter the main city areas.

Passengers are being dropped off at the โ€œ26 Numberโ€ point. From there, they must use other means of transport. This has created additional inconvenience for daily commuters.

Operators stated that direct public transport services to Islamabad will remain suspended. They said operations will only resume once all routes are fully restored and cleared for travel.

The situation has also affected local movement within Islamabad. Reduced city-level public transport services have added pressure on passengers. Many commuters are now relying on private vehicles or ride-hailing services.

Authorities have increased security measures in the twin cities. The step comes amid concerns related to possible high-level visits and security arrangements.

In the Red Zone area, government offices will operate under a work-from-home policy on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Officials have instructed staff to remain available for urgent calls.

A deputy commissioner advised citizens to plan their travel carefully. He also warned that public transport routes may continue to face changes depending on the situation.

Commuters are urged to stay updated on route information. Transport operators say they will restore full services once conditions improve.
