Punjab Allocates Rs624m for 5G Locators and Vehicles for Special Branch

The Punjab Finance Department has released new funds to strengthen surveillance and security operations in the province. The funding will support the Special Branch in monitoring key activities and protecting important personalities.

According to official details, the Punjab cabinet approved a total of Rs624 million for the purchase of advanced surveillance equipment and vehicles. The approval was granted as part of the province’s financial planning for the fiscal year 2025–26.

The funding includes the purchase of five modern 5G locators along with vehicles for operational use. Authorities say these resources will help improve security arrangements, especially for the chief minister and other high-profile individuals.

The Punjab government also approved a special supplementary grant for the project. This grant allows the Special Branch to complete the procurement within the current financial year.

Officials explained that Rs586 million has been allocated for the purchase of 5G locators. The remaining Rs38 million will be used to buy vehicles for the department.

Each locator is estimated to cost around Rs293 million. Meanwhile, each vehicle will cost approximately Rs19 million. These resources are expected to improve the surveillance capabilities of the Special Branch.

The Punjab Special Branch is responsible for monitoring various activities across the province. These include religious, political, and social developments that may impact public order.

The department also plays an important role in providing intelligence related to security matters. It assists law enforcement agencies in identifying potential threats and ensuring public safety.

Officials believe the addition of advanced locators will allow better tracking and monitoring capabilities. The vehicles will also help officers move quickly during surveillance and security operations.

Once the procurement process is completed, all equipment and vehicles will be formally handed over to the Punjab Special Branch. The department will then deploy these resources for operational duties.

Government representatives say the investment reflects the Punjab administration’s focus on strengthening security infrastructure. They believe improved surveillance tools will help authorities respond more effectively to emerging security challenges.

Experts also note that modern surveillance equipment can significantly improve intelligence gathering. This helps law enforcement agencies maintain stability and prevent potential threats.
