Punjab Declares Public Holiday on December 25

The Punjab government has issued an official notification announcing a public holiday across the province on December 25, 2025. The holiday will be observed to mark the birth anniversary of Pakistan’s founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

According to the notification, all provincial government offices will remain closed on this day. Educational institutions and public sector organizations will also observe the holiday. The decision follows the annual tradition of honoring the national leader on his birth anniversary.

In addition to the December 25 holiday, the Punjab government has also declared December 26 as a public holiday for the Christian community. The day will be observed to celebrate Christmas. This step aims to respect religious diversity and ensure equal recognition for minority communities.

Earlier, the federal government announced a nationwide public holiday on December 25. The holiday will be observed across Pakistan to mark both Quaid-e-Azam’s birth anniversary and Christmas. On this day, federal offices, banks, and many private institutions will remain closed.

The announcement means that both public and private sector employees across the country will get a day off. Banks will also suspend operations for the day. However, emergency services are expected to remain functional as per routine arrangements.

The decision by the Punjab authorities aligns with steps taken by other provinces. The Sindh government has also declared December 25 as a public holiday. In addition, Sindh has announced December 26 as a holiday for the Christian community to celebrate Christmas.

Officials said the move reflects national unity and respect for religious and cultural occasions. They added that public notifications were issued in advance to help institutions and businesses plan accordingly.

Citizens are advised to check with their workplaces regarding operating hours. Some private organizations may follow separate schedules based on internal policies.

The holidays provide an opportunity for people to observe important national and religious events. Families often use this time to participate in commemorative activities or spend time together.
