Punjab Approves Rs50,000 Fine for Dumping Animal Offals in Streets on Eidul Azha

Punjab Approves Rs50,000 Fine for Dumping Animal Offals in Streets on Eidul Azha

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a strict new sanitation policy ahead of Eidul Azha across the province. Under the new decision, anyone caught dumping animal waste or remains in streets and unauthorized areas will face a Fine of Rs50,000.

The decision was announced during a video-link meeting chaired by the chief minister. The meeting focused on reviewing Punjab’s sanitation arrangements for Eidul Azha. Officials briefed the chief minister on preparations being made to maintain cleanliness during the festival days.

Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to ensure proper sanitation in all major cities and districts of Punjab. She specifically ordered improved cleanliness in drains, canals, railway colonies, cantonment areas, private housing societies, and major commercial markets.

According to officials, sanitation operations will cover 2,687 large commercial markets throughout the province. A public awareness campaign will also be launched to discourage citizens from dumping waste in prohibited locations.

The government believes strict monitoring and public cooperation are necessary to maintain hygiene during Eidul Azha. Authorities say the new Fine policy aims to prevent environmental pollution and health risks caused by improper disposal of animal remains.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that all government departments must work together during the Eid operation. She instructed departments to act as one coordinated unit to ensure smooth sanitation services throughout the province.

Officials also confirmed that exceptional cleanliness performance will be rewarded, while negligence by staff or departments may lead to penalties. Vigilance squads have already been formed to monitor illegal dumping and littering activities.

To assist citizens, biodegradable shopping bags will be distributed for collecting animal waste and remains. Authorities hope this step will help improve waste disposal practices during the religious festival.

More than 176,000 sanitary workers will participate in the Eid sanitation operation. In addition, over 8,000 temporary workers will also be hired to support the campaign.

The Punjab government has designated 3,800 primary collection centers, 3,100 dumping sites, and 7,000 disposal points across the province. These facilities are expected to help manage waste collection more efficiently.

For Eid operations, around 4,500 special camps will also be established in different areas. Authorities will deploy more than 40,000 additional vehicles, including tractor trolleys, mini dumpers, pickup trucks, and loader rickshaws.

Citizens facing sanitation-related issues can contact Punjab’s official sanitation helpline at 1139. Officials say complaints received through the helpline will be addressed quickly during Eid days.
