The Punjab Bar Council (PBC) has cancelled the licences of 361 lawyers after finding that they had been practising law using fraudulent academic credentials.
According to the council, the disciplinary action followed an investigation into fake degrees reportedly issued by Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai University. The affected lawyers have had their licences revoked, and criminal cases have been registered against them.
The council also said that 36 lawyers admitted their wrongdoing and submitted written apologies. They were collectively fined Rs550,000 instead of facing further disciplinary proceedings under that aspect of the case.
The decision was approved by Executive Committee Chairman Fakhar Hayat Awan, who authorised the disciplinary measures against the lawyers found to be using fraudulent qualifications.
The Punjab Bar Council said the action reflects its commitment to protecting the integrity of the legal profession. It added that only advocates holding valid academic qualifications and properly issued licences should be allowed to practise law.
The latest action is one of the largest disciplinary measures involving fake legal credentials in Punjab. By cancelling licences and registering cases, the council says it aims to uphold professional standards and strengthen public confidence in the legal system.

The Punjab Bar Council has not announced any additional disciplinary measures beyond those outlined in its official statement.
