Punjab has entered its fourth monsoon spell of the season, with authorities warning of a growing Flood Threat across several parts of the province. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high-alert advisory as heavy rainfall is expected to continue until August 5.
Officials have directed all district administrations and emergency response agencies to stay fully prepared for any weather-related incidents. The advisory comes amid forecasts of intense rain, rising water levels, urban flooding and possible landslides in vulnerable areas.
According to the latest weather forecast, heavy rain is likely in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Okara and Pakpattan. Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Narowal are also expected to receive significant rainfall over the coming days.
Several districts in southern Punjab may also experience moderate to heavy showers. Authorities believe the widespread rainfall could increase pressure on drainage systems and water channels.
The Flood Threat is especially high in low-lying urban areas. PDMA warned that Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan could face urban flooding if rainfall becomes more intense.
Mountainous regions, including Murree and Galiyat, are also under close watch. Continuous rain could trigger landslides, making travel dangerous in these areas. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary movement during severe weather.
Officials also expressed concern about heavy rainfall in upper catchment areas. Increased water flows in rivers, streams and hill torrents may raise the risk of flooding in vulnerable locations. Local administrations have been instructed to closely monitor water levels throughout the monsoon spell.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has directed commissioners, deputy commissioners and all concerned departments to activate emergency response plans. Rescue teams have been placed on standby, while drainage systems are being checked to ensure they remain operational during heavy rainfall.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has instructed district administrations to maintain round-the-clock vigilance. She directed officials to respond immediately to any emergency caused by the ongoing monsoon rains and ensure timely assistance for affected communities.
The disaster management authority has also issued safety guidelines for the public. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and thunderstorms. People should stay away from weak or mud-built structures, which may become unsafe during continuous rainfall.
Parents have been urged to keep children away from stagnant rainwater, electric poles and overhead power lines to reduce the risk of accidents. Residents living in flood-prone areas should closely follow official weather updates and emergency instructions.
