Punjab’s Crime Control Department (CCD) has reported a 63% decline in overall crime across the province, according to a comparative report released on October 26, 2026. Lahore recorded the largest regional decrease at 78%, followed by Faisalabad and Sahiwal.
The figures compare reported crime levels in September 2025 with those recorded in September 2023. The department also reported reductions in several categories of property crime, including house dacoity, highway dacoity, robbery, motorcycle snatching and motorcycle theft.
CCD chief Sohail Zafar Chatha chaired a meeting where officials reviewed the reported figures and discussed the department’s efforts to tackle criminal activity across Punjab.
According to the published figures, Faisalabad recorded a 68% decline in overall crime, while Sahiwal reported a 66% reduction. Multan registered a decrease of 59%, and Gujranwala and Bahawalpur each recorded a 58% decline.
Sheikhupura reported a 57% reduction, followed by Sargodha at 56%. Rawalpindi recorded a 52% decrease, while Dera Ghazi Khan reported a 43% decline, the lowest percentage among the regions listed.
The regional figures show differences in the reported reductions across Punjab. However, percentage changes alone do not establish the reasons behind these differences or reveal the total number of cases recorded in each area.
The CCD’s reported statistics also showed declines across several major crime categories. House dacoity reportedly decreased by 81%, while highway dacoity fell by 72%. Robbery cases declined by 71%, motorcycle snatching by 67%, and motorcycle theft by 56%.
A separate report by The News International listed a 65% decrease in house robbery. This figure is distinct from the reported 81% reduction in house dacoity, as the two categories refer to different offences.
The department has attributed the reported improvement to intelligence-based operations and targeted action against criminal elements. These measures form part of its stated efforts to curb serious offences and improve public safety.
During the meeting, officials reviewed crime trends and the department’s performance across different regions. The review focused on the reported changes in crime and enforcement activity.
Rawalpindi’s reported 52% decline places the city below Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Sheikhupura and Sargodha in the regional comparison. However, the available figures do not show how the change was distributed across individual neighbourhoods or specific offences within the city.
The reported decline across Punjab provides an overview of the CCD’s comparison between September 2023 and September 2025. A clearer assessment would require detailed case numbers, offence-specific data and information about reporting patterns during both periods.

The figures were released as part of the department’s review of crime trends and operations. The CCD has presented intelligence-led enforcement as a key part of its strategy to address criminal activity across the province.
