Punjab to Deploy New Electric Buses Across 14 Districts by End of July

LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced the deployment of New Electric Buses across 14 districts by the end of July 2026. The initiative is part of the provinceโ€™s ongoing plan to modernize public transport and provide cleaner, more efficient travel options.

According to the government, the rollout of New Electric Buses will improve urban transportation and expand access to reliable public transit in several cities and districts across Punjab.

Under the latest plan, Chiniot, Layyah, Okara, and Sialkot will each receive 10 electric buses. These vehicles are expected to improve daily commuting and reduce pressure on existing transport services.

Lahore, Gujranwala, and Multan will receive 12 New Electric Buses each. These major cities have been included due to their large populations and increasing demand for modern public transportation.

In addition, Murree, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Vehari, Kasur, Lodhran, Nankana Sahib, and Narowal will each receive 11 electric buses before the end of July.

The provincial government said the deployment is part of a broader strategy to build a sustainable transport network throughout Punjab. Officials believe electric buses will improve passenger comfort while reducing environmental pollution.

The government has also confirmed that 488 additional electric buses are expected to arrive in Pakistan by the end of August 2026. Once delivered, these buses will be distributed among various districts to further strengthen the province’s public transport system.

Authorities said the arrival of the additional fleet will allow more cities to benefit from modern transport services. The expansion is expected to improve connectivity and increase access to affordable public transportation.

Officials added that electric buses produce lower emissions than traditional diesel-powered vehicles. Their introduction supports Punjab’s efforts to promote environmentally friendly transport and reduce air pollution.

To support these projects, the Punjab government has allocated billions of rupees under the Annual Development Program (ADP). The funding will be used to improve transport infrastructure and develop modern public transit facilities across the province.

The government believes investment in public transportation is essential to meet the needs of growing urban populations. Modern transport systems can also help reduce traffic congestion and improve travel efficiency.

Officials said the deployment of New Electric Buses represents another step toward creating a cleaner and more sustainable transport network in Punjab. They added that additional projects are being planned to further improve mobility across the province.

The government is expected to continue expanding electric public transport in the coming months as more buses arrive and supporting infrastructure is completed.
