Punjab Traffic Police has introduced special licensing arrangements for students applying under the provincial government’s electric bike programme.
The new measures aim to make the driving license process easier for eligible students.
Applicants can now obtain a motorcycle learning license and regular driving license on the same day. Students will not need to wait the usual 42-day period after receiving their learning license.
The facility is designed to help eligible students meet the licensing requirement for the E-Bike Scheme.
Same-Day Driving License Facility for Students
Punjab DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir has issued instructions to licensing centers across the province.
Officials have been directed to facilitate students seeking motorcycle licenses for the electric bike programme.
Chief Traffic Officers and District Traffic Officers have also received instructions to simplify the process for eligible applicants.
Under the special arrangement, students can complete both stages of the licensing process on the same day.
This removes the normal 42-day waiting period between the learning and regular license stages for these applicants.
Driving License Mandatory for E-Bike Scheme
According to a Punjab Traffic Police spokesperson, students must have a valid motorcycle driving license to benefit from the scheme.
Applicants should therefore complete their licensing requirements before using the electric bike facility.
The E-Bike Scheme is part of the provincial government’s programme to distribute 100,000 electric bikes. Traffic police have also stressed the importance of road safety for young riders.
Students have been encouraged to receive proper training before riding motorcycles on public roads.
Officials said training can help students become safer and more responsible riders.
Punjab Issues Over 222,000 Motorcycle Licenses
Punjab Traffic Police has also shared recent figures regarding motorcycle driving licenses. More than 222,000 motorcycle driving licenses were issued across Punjab during the past eight days.
The department has also issued over 6,500 juvenile driving permits so far this month.
These figures come as licensing services receive increased attention across the province.
Licensing Centers Directed to Facilitate Students
DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir directed officials to provide the best possible facilities to eligible students.
The instructions apply to students visiting licensing centers for requirements linked to the E-Bike Scheme. Chief Traffic Officers and District Traffic Officers are expected to ensure that applicants receive appropriate assistance.
The department has also highlighted safe and responsible riding alongside the simplified licensing process. Students seeking electric bikes should complete the required licensing process and obtain proper road-safety training.
