Major Electric Bike Scheme Set to Launch in Punjab - Check Details

LAHORE โ€“ The Punjab government has announced a major step toward cleaner transport with a new electric bike scheme. The plan aims to reduce pollution and promote affordable travel options for the public.

Officials say the electric bike scheme is designed to address rising fuel costs and increasing environmental concerns. It will help citizens shift toward eco-friendly transportation in major urban areas.

In the first phase, around 10,000 electric bikes will be introduced in Lahore. These bikes will be available for public rental use. Authorities believe this will improve daily commuting for students, workers, and general users.

The electric bike scheme will also include the establishment of 300 docking and charging stations across the city. These stations will support easy access and smooth operation of the service. The Punjab Housing Authority (PHA) will provide land for these facilities.

Officials said the project will improve connectivity between residential areas, business centers, and public transport hubs. It is expected to make urban travel more efficient and convenient.

Environmental experts believe the electric bike scheme could play an important role in reducing air pollution. The initiative may help cut thousands of tons of carbon emissions every year. It is also expected to support efforts against smog in Lahore.

The service will be operated through a mobile application. Users will be able to locate and rent bikes easily using digital access. This will make the system more user-friendly and modern.

However, authorities have not yet finalized the pricing structure. It is still unclear whether the rental will be charged hourly or on a daily basis. Officials are expected to announce further details in the coming weeks.

The electric bike scheme is part of a broader strategy to promote green transport in Punjab. The government aims to reduce dependency on petrol-based vehicles. It also wants to encourage sustainable urban mobility solutions.
