Punjab authorities have established 12 Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) to probe high-profile TLP cases. Seven JITs will operate in Lahore and five in Sheikhupura.
The JITs have been tasked with investigating 12 major cases registered under terrorism and other serious charges. Each team will include representatives from the police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and other sensitive agencies. Special prosecutors have also been appointed to ensure speedy legal proceedings.
Punjab police had requested the formation of JITs to accelerate the investigation of TLP cases. Officials stated that over 75 cases have been registered against the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), with more than 2,000 suspects arrested so far.
The JITs are expected to conclude their investigations promptly. Authorities aim to hold extremist elements accountable and bring clarity to the ongoing TLP cases.
Security sources have revealed that organizers of recent TLP protests have been identified. A list of key figures has been prepared, and complete data has been shared with law enforcement agencies.
Sources added that geo-fencing, call data records, and command point tracking have exposed the masterminds behind the violent incidents. The identities of financiers and facilitators of TLP activities have also been documented, with a crackdown expected soon.
Authorities have identified arsonists through video evidence, and raids are being planned. Special teams are monitoring suspected TLP funding through security banking records.
The security agencies continue to follow a zero-tolerance policy against individuals involved in lawless incidents. TLP chief Saad Hussain Rizvi and several party workers have been charged with terrorism for attacks on police in Rawat, Taxila, and Muridke.
Punjabโs formation of JITs highlights the governmentโs determination to address TLP-related violence and strengthen law enforcement against extremist activities.
