Lahore: The Punjab government has launched strict measures against sugar mills that are delaying the crushing season, warning of penalties for non-compliance. Officials stated that the timely start of sugarcane crushing is crucial to protect farmers’ interests and ensure market stability.
Authorities highlighted that several mills had postponed operations despite the availability of sugarcane, creating losses for growers and pushing up sugar prices. The provincial administration has instructed regulatory authorities to monitor mills closely and take immediate action against those failing to commence crushing.
The government emphasized that delays not only harm farmers but also disrupt the supply chain, affecting sugar availability and prices nationwide. Officials assured that strict enforcement of rules will continue until all mills are fully operational.
