The Punjab government has made Parent-Teacher meetings (PTMs) mandatory in all government colleges, following a similar initiative in schools. The decision aims to improve student performance and strengthen communication between colleges and parents, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Thursday.
All college heads under the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) Punjab have been instructed to conduct Parent-Teacher meetings starting January 22. The meetings will review students’ academic performance and plan strategies for further improvement.
During the PTM, colleges will distribute certificates to position holders of the December test. Parents will also be informed about their child’s results and overall performance. Principals have been directed to encourage students who achieved top positions and motivate others to perform better in future exams.
The Punjab DPI has instructed that photo reports of each Parent-Teacher meeting be sent to the DPI Colleges Office. Directors, Deputy Directors, and designated Focal Persons are required to actively participate in the PTMs to ensure proper monitoring and support.
The notification emphasizes that these meetings are part of a broader effort to enhance educational standards in public colleges. Authorities believe that involving parents in academic progress will help create a more supportive learning environment for students.
Officials stated that PTMs will also serve as a platform for parents to provide feedback, discuss concerns, and engage with teachers regarding student development. By making the meetings compulsory, the Punjab government hopes to ensure consistent communication and accountability in the education system.
The initiative reflects the government’s focus on improving student outcomes through collaborative efforts between teachers, parents, and college administration. Colleges are expected to strictly follow the guidelines outlined in the DPI notification to maximize the effectiveness of these meetings.
