Punjab Launches ‘Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar’ to Empower Farmers and Create Jobs

Punjab government has announced the launch of the Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar programme to support farmers across the province. The initiative aims to give farmers, who previously worked as laborers or tenants on others’ lands, the opportunity to own and cultivate their own fields.

The decision was taken in the 32nd Punjab cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. She directed immediate steps to allocate government land to 50,000 farmers for cultivation. Officials said the programme will help increase agricultural productivity and provide long-term security to farming families.

Alongside Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar, the cabinet approved hundreds of new posts for youth in departments including Crime Control, Excise, Tourism Police, and Home Department. The government is also introducing green electric buses at the tehsil level, with 1,000 buses expected to start service soon. A cashless payment system, including T-cash and bank cards, will be implemented from March 25.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized promoting Punjab’s culture and economy. She instructed horse and cattle shows in all districts and approved the introduction of new tourist destinations beyond Murree. She added that every citizen will now receive their rights and facilities, from city centers to villages.

Other decisions include increasing salaries for school staff under the School Management Council Policy from Rs2,000 to Rs4,000, recruiting 216 constables in Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, and approving over 1,000 new posts for the Murree Tourism Police. Rules for appointing Vice Chancellors of government medical universities and a new Director Agriculture post in the Auqaf Department were also approved.

The cabinet was briefed on security achievements, including the surrender of 141 dacoits from Punjab’s Kachha area and the identification and safe release of hostages from Sindh using thermal drones.
