LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced the Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat Scheme 2026 to help homeowners repair, strengthen, or expand their existing houses. The initiative offers interest-free loans ranging from Rs500,000 to Rs1 million.
The new scheme is aimed at supporting families who want to improve the condition of their homes without the burden of paying interest. Under the program, eligible applicants can receive financial assistance in two separate categories based on the nature of their housing needs.
According to the Punjab government, citizens who wish to repair damaged roofs or improve the structure of their homes can apply for an interest-free loan of Rs500,000. The repayment period has been set at nine years, with a monthly installment of Rs4,700.
The second category is designed for homeowners planning to expand their properties. This includes the construction of an additional floor or other approved extensions. Under this option, applicants can receive an interest-free loan of Rs1 million.
Officials said the larger loan will also be repaid over a period of nine years. Beneficiaries in this category will pay monthly installments of Rs9,300 until the loan is fully repaid.
The Punjab government said the initiative is intended to improve housing conditions and provide affordable financial support to residents. By offering interest-free financing, authorities hope more families will be able to upgrade their homes without facing high borrowing costs.
Eligible citizens can apply for the scheme through the official online portal. Applicants are required to provide the necessary personal information and supporting documents during the application process.
The government has also provided an alternative application method for people who prefer not to apply online. Citizens can submit handwritten applications if they are unable to complete the digital registration process.
To make the scheme more accessible, applications are also being accepted at the offices of Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency. These offices will assist applicants who need guidance with the process.
Officials said the multiple application channels are intended to ensure that residents from both urban and rural areas can benefit from the housing program.
The launch of the Punjab housing initiative follows the government’s continued efforts to improve access to affordable housing and financial assistance. Authorities believe the scheme will help families maintain safer homes while supporting long-term residential development.
The program also complements other housing initiatives introduced by the provincial government to increase home ownership and improve living conditions across the province.
