Punjab government has announced plans to establish the province’s first Medical District in Lahore. The project will be developed under the name Nawaz Sharif Medical District and aims to strengthen the healthcare system.
According to official sources, the new Medical District will follow the model of the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Care Hospital. Authorities believe the project will create a modern healthcare hub for patients across Punjab.
More than 1,500 kanals of land have been allocated for the development. Officials confirmed that the initial PC-1 approval and 3D design plans have already been completed.
The project will include several important facilities to support healthcare services. A helipad will be built on 22.87 kanals of land to assist emergency medical transport. In addition, a gas station will be constructed on 32.38 kanals within the district.
The Medical District will also introduce new environmental features. For the first time, a biodiversity park will be part of a healthcare complex in Punjab. Officials say the green space will provide a healthy and relaxing environment for patients and visitors.
Commercial areas have also been included in the design. Around 28.89 kanals have been allocated for the first commercial zone. Another 28.69 kanals will be used for the second commercial section.
Urban planning is a major part of the project. The district design features a main Civic Avenue connecting multiple hospitals and medical facilities. A wide 250-foot road named Sunset Avenue will also run through the area.
Pedestrian infrastructure has been carefully planned as well. Authorities have set aside 53.99 kanals for crosswalks, pedestrian bridges, and Canal Vista development. These features aim to make the area safe and accessible for visitors.
The location of the Medical District will also offer strong transportation links. The project will connect directly with the Lahore Ring Road. This connection will help patients and emergency vehicles reach hospitals quickly.
The first healthcare facility planned within the district is the Institute of Ophthalmology. The estimated cost of the institute is about PKR 1.78 billion.
Officials say construction work on the institute is expected to begin during the current financial year. Once completed, the project could become a major healthcare center for the region.
