The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast for rains across most districts of Punjab until December 5. Light rain is expected in the plains, while hilly areas may receive light snowfall.
Director-General of the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Irfan Ali Kathia, said Lahore, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Layyah, Kot Adu, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Khanpur will experience fog and smog. He added that rainfall in the region could help reduce smog in some areas.
Snowfall is expected in Murree, Galiyat, and other elevated areas. DG Kathia urged citizens to wear masks and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities. Drivers were advised to use fog lights while traveling to stay safe in reduced visibility conditions.
The PDMA control room is monitoring the situation round-the-clock. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather, and farmers are encouraged to plan their activities according to the weather forecast for rains.
The Punjab government has also intensified emergency measures to improve air quality. Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb stated that low temperatures and weak winds in Lahore have increased pollution levels. Additional steps have been taken to enhance air quality and protect public health.
The Anti-Smog Field Force has been assigned to operate with increased manpower. The Department of Environment has stepped up inspections in industrial zones, especially during night hours, to curb harmful emissions. Several factories releasing toxic smoke have been sealed.
According to officials, the weather forecast for rains may provide relief to areas facing heavy smog. Authorities continue to advise residents to stay cautious and follow all safety measures while the rains and snowfall persist.
