The Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) has ordered strict enforcement of rules for Basant 2026 celebrations across the province. Police have been instructed to ensure safety and compliance with all regulations.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar stated that only registered kite sellers will be allowed to sell approved kites and threads. Officers are tasked with monitoring all sales and ensuring full compliance with government SOPs.
The police chief warned of strict action against aerial firing, display of weapons, obscene behaviour, or any other immoral conduct. โThere will be zero tolerance for violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act across the province,โ he added.
A meeting on the safe conduct of Basant 2026 was held under the chairmanship of CCPO Lahore. Officials reviewed all preparations to ensure a secure and well-managed event. Rooftop owners were instructed to provide security bonds guaranteeing adherence to SOPs.
Bilal Siddiq Kaimiana emphasized that no more than the permitted number of people will be allowed on rooftops. He noted that strict enforcement of the Kite Flying Act is critical for ensuring public safety during the festival.
Starting from February 1, motorcycles without safety rods are banned from roads. Teams have been deployed to monitor compliance using both human intelligence and modern technology.
Authorities also warned of legal action against violations of the Punjab Sound System Act, illegal kite flying, and the use of metallic threads. The CCPO Lahore stressed that strict enforcement will continue without exception to protect citizens and prevent accidents.
Police officials said the measures are part of a wider effort to maintain order during Basant. Residents and visitors are urged to cooperate with authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable festival.
With these steps, the Punjab police aim to reduce accidents, control crowds, and ensure that Basant 2026 proceeds smoothly under full supervision and vigilance.
