Punjab Schools May Get Longer Winter Holidays Due To Cold Wave

LAHORE โ€“ Amid chilly weather and social media rumors, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed that school winter vacations will end as scheduled on January 12.

Recent cold waves in Punjab, with temperatures dropping to single digits, fueled speculation that school winter vacations might be extended. Some viral posts suggested authorities were considering prolonging the break due to harsh weather.

Addressing the rumors, Minister Hayat called them โ€œbaselessโ€ and clarified that all schools and colleges will reopen on the planned date. He urged students, parents, and teachers to ignore misinformation circulating online.

โ€œEducational institutions will resume as scheduled. There are no plans to extend school winter vacations,โ€ Hayat said, reassuring the public. His statement comes just days before students return to classes, ensuring families can make appropriate preparations.

Meteorological forecasts indicate Punjab will continue to experience cold and dry weather. Hilly areas like Murree and Galiyat are expected to see extremely cold conditions, while light rain or snowfall may occur during the evening and night.

Several districts, including Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan, may experience moderate to dense fog. The fog could reduce visibility, causing travel disruptions for commuters returning to school.

Officials emphasized that while weather conditions remain challenging, schools will operate as usual. Transportation authorities have been advised to take precautions to ensure safe travel for students and staff during the reopening of educational institutions.

The timely confirmation by the Education Minister ends confusion over school winter vacations, allowing teachers, students, and parents to plan for the upcoming term. Authorities continue to monitor weather patterns and are prepared to provide updates if conditions change significantly.

In summary, students across Punjab should prepare to return to classrooms on January 12, marking the official end of school winter vacations for 2026.
