On the special directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Lahore Highway Division has accelerated road repair and maintenance work in Raiwind and surrounding areas. The initiative aims to ensure smooth travel for participants attending the annual Tablighi Ijtima, one of the largest religious gatherings in the region.
According to officials, four major connecting roads leading to Raiwind have been completely repaired. The work included filling potholes, restoring shoulder roads, and repainting lane markings. These upgrades have given the area a clean and organized look ahead of the major religious event.
The Sundar-Raiwind Road, a key route leading to the Ijtima site, has been fully rehabilitated up to Ijtima Chowk, with patchwork and shoulder dressing completed. Similarly, Mian Ji Abdullah Road and the 2-kilometer Sundar-to-Markaz stretch have been restored to improve traffic flow and ensure the comfort of visitors.
Officials also confirmed that the 11-kilometer Pajian Bypass to Bachoki Phatak route has undergone extensive repairs, including the addition of new shoulder roads. Moreover, a 2.5-kilometer section of Railway Road has been reconstructed to support smooth and safe movement for both vehicles and pedestrians during the event.
The Lahore Highway Division stated that these measures are part of a broader effort to enhance the region’s infrastructure and ensure the safety and convenience of all participants. The upgraded road network is expected to significantly reduce congestion and travel time for pilgrims.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has instructed relevant departments to remain on high alert throughout the event and ensure that road maintenance, lighting, and traffic management systems operate efficiently.
The government’s timely completion of the project reflects its commitment to facilitating religious gatherings and improving road infrastructure across Punjab.
