Heavy rainfall and snowfall are expected in multiple cities of Pakistan, offering major relief to drought-stricken areas of Balochistan. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast prolonged wet weather from December 6 to 10.
According to the PMD, strong westerly winds will enter Balochistan during this period, triggering the first significant and extended spell of rainfall this season. The rains are expected to continue intermittently throughout December, bringing much-needed moisture to the region.
Officials said the upcoming rainfall will improve conditions in major drought-hit districts, including Zhob, Sherani, Musakhel, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibi, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, Gwadar, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Qilla Saifullah, Chagai, Nushki, Washuk, and Mastung. Several areas may experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, while upper regions are likely to see snowfall.
Experts highlighted that north-western winds remain stronger than usual this year. Moisture-laden air from the Arabian Sea is moving towards Balochistan, creating conditions for a long spell of rainfall. This extended wet period is expected to raise groundwater levels and replenish dam reservoirs, providing significant relief to farmers and local communities.
The PMD has advised residents to stay alert for possible flash floods in low-lying areas and ensure proper drainage systems are clear. Authorities are also monitoring roads in mountainous regions prone to snowfall, ensuring safety for travelers.
This upcoming spell of rainfall marks a positive turn for Balochistan, where several districts have faced severe drought conditions over the past months. Farmers and residents are hopeful that the rains will restore agriculture and water supplies, benefiting both urban and rural communities.
