The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly on Monday voted to remove Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, electing PPP’s Raja Faisal Rathore as the new Prime Minister.
The no-confidence motion against Anwarul Haq was passed with a clear majority, marking a major shift in AJK’s political landscape. Following the vote, lawmakers elected Raja Faisal Rathore as his successor, signaling renewed alignment within the ruling coalition.
Rathore, who belongs to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), thanked the assembly members for their confidence and pledged to work toward strengthening governance, development, and public welfare in the region.
Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, who faced growing dissent within the assembly, accepted the outcome but criticized the political maneuvering that led to his removal.
Political analysts say the leadership change is likely to impact ongoing development projects and future legislative priorities. The new prime minister is expected to announce his cabinet in the coming days.
