Experts Claim Ramadan Fasting May Boost Heart Health & Reduce Risk

Health experts say that Fasting during Ramadan may help reduce risk factors linked to heart disease and high blood pressure. They stress that people should follow medical advice and maintain a balanced diet while fasting to stay safe and healthy. Proper guidance ensures better health outcomes.

Medical professionals explain that structured Fasting can support improved control of cholesterol levels and blood pressure. It helps the body regulate key functions and may lower the risk of obesity and related heart problems. Controlled eating patterns play an important role in overall wellness.

Limiting unhealthy food choices is essential during fasting periods. Avoiding heavy and fatty foods such as beef, hydrogenated oils, vanaspati ghee, margarine, and refined flour products is strongly advised. High-carbohydrate and processed foods should also be reduced to protect heart health.

Rawalpindi Medical University Vice Chancellor Mohammad Umar advised heart patients and individuals with hypertension to be cautious before observing fasts. He recommended that patients consult their doctors and follow professional medical guidance. They must continue prescribed medications as instructed.

Experts suggest choosing healthier food options instead of fried and processed meals. Foods like fish, leafy vegetables, salads, and fresh fruits are encouraged. Healthy fats such as olive oil, canola oil, almonds, and walnuts are better alternatives for people practicing Fasting.

Doctors also warn against trans fats commonly found in fried and packaged foods. These fats can increase heart risks and should be avoided. Patients are advised to choose brown flour chapati instead of parathas and consume milk and yogurt without cream.
