Rana Sanaullah Claims Commissioner Chattha Has Been Dealing with Mental Health Issues for 'Quite Some Time'

The disclosure by the Rawalpindi commissioner regarding a suicide attempt amid accusations of electoral fraud has reverberated across the political landscape, sparking a range of responses from different political factions.

In response to the allegations, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah stated that even if the commissioner played a role in rigging, capital punishment could not be justified. He emphasized the absence of any law in Pakistan permitting public hanging, noting that individuals attempting suicide were victims of mental stress. Sanaullah characterized these developments as efforts to cast doubt on the elections and suggested that Liaquat Chattha, the commissioner, should be admitted to a hospital.

Sanaullah disclosed that these allegations were not the sole reason for the PML-N’s decision not to assume governance, revealing an internal consensus within the party against forming the government and shouldering additional burdens. He emphasized that Nawaz Sharif had not made a decision yet and expressed the PML-N’s willingness to engage in discussions with all stakeholders, underscoring the importance of a robust government for political stability.

Furthermore, JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah echoed the sentiment that the elections were rigged, with winning candidates forced to lose and vice versa. He highlighted the unease among the winners and losers, suggesting that nobody was prepared to assume the role of prime minister. Hamdullah urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to annul the February 8 elections, questioning the necessity of the election if the decision was predetermined.

PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi voiced reservations over the elections and called for an immediate government investigation into the matter.
