The federal government has issued a notification announcing that Rao Abdul Karim, a grade-21 officer, replaces Usman Anwar as Inspector General of Punjab Police.
Usman Anwar has been transferred to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the notification confirmed. Raja Riffat, former DG FIA, has been directed to report to the Establishment Division, according to official sources.
Dr. Anwar, who joined Punjab Police in 1995, served as additional inspector general of the Motorway Police before being appointed Punjab IGP. He has also held key positions, including additional IG of the Special Branch in Punjab and DPO of Okara and Sargodha.
Rao Abdul Karim brings years of administrative and policing experience to the role. With his appointment, he officially replaces Usman Anwar as the head of Punjab Police, succeeding him after his tenure since January 24, 2023.
The notification also mentioned new postings for other senior officers. Raja Riffat Mujhtar has been assigned to the Narcotics Control Division, while Raja Riffat, the ex-DG FIA, will report to the Establishment Division.
Usman Anwar’s transfer to FIA is part of routine bureaucratic reshuffling aimed at strengthening leadership in law enforcement agencies. Analysts note that such changes ensure continuity and efficiency in police operations across Punjab and federal departments.
