The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi has expanded the E-Challan system to 14 additional locations across the city. The move is aimed at improving traffic law enforcement and encouraging safer driving through advanced monitoring technology.
The expanded E-Challan network is being operated with the support of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority. Officials say the latest expansion will help identify more traffic violations and improve road safety without disrupting traffic flow.
According to a police spokesperson, the system uses smart surveillance cameras to monitor roads around the clock. These cameras automatically detect traffic violations and generate electronic fines for motorists who break traffic laws.
The automated system allows authorities to take action without stopping vehicles on the road. Officials believe this approach will improve efficiency while reducing traffic congestion during enforcement operations.
The newly added locations include Abid Majeed Road near Army Medical College, Lane 4 on Main Peshawar Road, Raafi Mall on Main Peshawar Road, Chauhar Chowk, and Chishtia Abad Turn on Main Peshawar Road.
The E-Challan system has also been activated on Rawal Road near Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Hameed Khan Chowk on Murree Road, and Committee Chowk near Fish Market. These are among the city’s busiest traffic corridors.
Additional locations include Bohar Bazaar opposite Naaz Cinema on Murree Road, Double Road Turn Shalimar, Dhoke Khallo near Sixth Road, and the Survey of Pakistan U-Turn on Murree Road.
Authorities have also installed the smart monitoring system at Sanober City on Main Adiala Road and U-Turn Chowk near the Punjab Housing Authority on Main Adiala Road. These locations were selected to improve monitoring in areas with heavy traffic movement.
Traffic police said the expanded camera network will strengthen enforcement against common violations such as overspeeding, signal jumping, and other traffic offences. Automated detection is expected to improve compliance with road safety regulations.
Officials urged motorists to strictly follow speed limits and obey all traffic rules while driving. Drivers who violate the law may receive electronic fines through the automated system without being stopped by police officers.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority has been introducing technology-based traffic management systems across the province to improve public safety. Smart surveillance and digital enforcement are considered key parts of this strategy.
Police believe the wider use of cameras will help reduce road accidents by encouraging more responsible driving behavior. They also expect the technology to improve transparency in traffic enforcement.
