The issuance of driving licenses to women has seen a significant rise in 2025. More than 248,000 women benefited from licensing services during the year. This marks a 42 percent increase compared to previous years.
Official data shows that over 183,000 women were issued car driving licenses. Additionally, 61,000 women obtained motorcycle licenses, while 1,833 women received Light Transport Vehicle (LTV) licenses. The report also notes that 240 women were granted rickshaw licenses, and 150 women acquired commercial heavy vehicle licenses.
DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir stated that women accounted for 86 percent of motorcycle licenses and 32 percent of car licenses issued in 2025. More than 10,000 women also obtained duplicate driving licenses during the year.
The department reported that over 77,000 women renewed their licenses in 2025. More than 2,000 women obtained commercial driving licenses, which opened up new employment opportunities.
To make licensing services more accessible, authorities introduced Pink Vans, bringing services to womenโs doorsteps. Dedicated facilities have also been established, including the Aabshar Centre in Lahore and the Women Enclave Centre in Gujranwala.
Millions of women have used online licensing services, including mothers, sisters, and daughters. These services have simplified the process and made it more inclusive, encouraging more women to get driving licenses.
Officials say the rising number of women obtaining licenses reflects growing independence and mobility. The government continues to improve facilities and outreach programs to ensure that more women can benefit from safe and legal driving.
The record increase in 2025 demonstrates the impact of modernized licensing services and dedicated initiatives for women. Experts believe this trend will continue in the coming years, promoting road safety and economic participation among women.
