A rickshaw driver has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a mentally-challenged girl in Lahore’s Shahdara area. According to reports, the suspect lured the vulnerable girl and assaulted her. Acting on a complaint, police detained the accused, Pervaiz, and launched an investigation.
SP City Bilal Ahmed emphasized that perpetrators of violence and sexual abuse against children should face no leniency.

In the first three months of 2025, there was a significant rise in cases of violence against women. From January to March 31, 27 women were murdered, and 151 women were raped. The police reported 1,182 cases of women being abducted, with only 988 recovered, while 194 remain missing.
Additionally, 138 children were abducted, with 14 still unaccounted for. The police recorded 151 rape cases during this period, with 110 suspects arrested, and 41 still at large. In cases of child sexual assault, 47 incidents were reported, with 44 suspects detained, leaving three unapprehended.
DIG Faisal Kamran reiterated the police’s zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children. He assured that most cases had been resolved, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
