The search operation at Gul Plaza continues after the devastating fire that broke out late on January 17. So far, 67 bodies have been recovered from the building, officials confirmed.
The Deputy Commissioner South said the number of missing persons currently stands at 77. He expressed hope that the search operation would be completed today. A team from the Sindh Building Control Authority is supervising all work at the site.
Seventeen of the recovered bodies have been identified, while authorities continue DNA collection to assist in identifying the remaining victims. Help desks have been set up for families of the missing, providing support and guidance during the ongoing recovery efforts.
The massive fire at Gul Plaza on M.A. Jinnah Road caused significant loss of life and property. While the blaze is now under control, the building remains structurally unstable, posing risks to rescue personnel.
Rescue teams are working alongside the Army, Rangers, and civil authorities to locate any remaining victims. Engineers are assessing the buildingโs structural integrity to ensure safety during the search operation.
Officials stressed that the situation is fluid, and families are coordinating closely with authorities to receive updates. The DNA collection and victim identification process is expected to continue throughout the day.
Authorities have also appealed to the public to avoid entering the area to prevent accidents and interference with ongoing recovery work.
The Gul Plaza fire has highlighted the need for stricter fire safety enforcement in high-rise buildings. Experts warn that proper safety measures could prevent such tragedies in the future.
Despite the challenges, rescue teams remain committed to completing the search operation efficiently, providing closure to families and ensuring that all missing persons are accounted for.
