Temperature Plummets To −4°C in Quetta As Balochistan Cold Wave Intensifies

A severe cold wave intensified across Balochistan on Wednesday, with temperature drops reaching alarming levels in key districts. Quetta recorded a minimum of minus 4 degrees Celsius, the Pakistan Meteorological Department reported.

The Met Office stated that the cold wave affected upper and northern parts of Balochistan. Temperature drops were more severe in Kalat and Ziarat, where readings fell to minus 7 degrees Celsius. Residents in several areas also reported extremely low gas pressure, increasing difficulties during the freezing conditions.

The National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergencies Operations Center (NEOC) issued a warning about the ongoing severe cold wave. The advisory stated that harsh winter conditions are expected to persist in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, and northern Balochistan in the coming days.

Authorities highlighted that temperature drops could intensify further in Quetta, Ziarat, and Kalat. The extreme cold may increase the risk of respiratory illnesses, and citizens are urged to take necessary precautions, including wearing warm clothing and avoiding prolonged exposure to the cold.

The NDMA also warned that severe cold may harm standing crops, advising farmers to protect their fields and livestock. Dense fog, combined with low temperatures, could create hazardous conditions for commuters, particularly in plains areas during early morning hours.

The Authority emphasized its role in ensuring timely early warnings and sharing critical weather information with both institutions and the public. Citizens were encouraged to stay updated on weather alerts and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.

Officials are working to manage the impact of the cold wave while helping residents cope with gas shortages and freezing conditions. Emergency services have been put on alert to provide assistance where needed.

With winter conditions expected to continue, the public is advised to remain cautious. The NDMA and Met Office continue monitoring the situation closely, ensuring that information about temperature drops and associated risks reaches communities promptly.
