Will the Shaban Moon Be Sighted? Latest Update on Shab-e-Barat 2026

ISLAMABAD โ€“ The Pakistan Meteorological Department has shared its prediction about the Islamic month of Shaban. According to the department, the first day of Shaban 1447 Hijri is expected to fall on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

The department stated that the Shaban moon will be born at 12:52 am on January 19, 2026. Despite the moonโ€™s birth, officials believe it will not be visible on the same evening. As a result, the new Islamic month is unlikely to begin on January 20.

Experts explained that at sunset on January 19, the moonโ€™s age will be between 17 and 18 hours. For a confirmed sighting, the moon must be at least 19 hours old. Due to this reason, moon sighting is considered impossible across the country that evening.

In Karachi, the moon is expected to remain above the horizon for around 32 to 33 minutes after sunset. In Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the duration will be about 30 to 31 minutes. Officials added that visibility will remain unlikely even if weather conditions are clear.

The department also clarified that there is no chance of moon sighting on the 29th of Rajab. A detailed report has already been sent to the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The committee will make the final announcement regarding the start of Shaban.

Based on these predictions, Shab-e-Barat in 2026 is expected to fall in the last week of January. Shab-e-Barat is observed on the night between the 14th and 15th of Shaban every year.

Muslims across Pakistan mark Shab-e-Barat with special prayers and religious gatherings. Many believers offer nawafil prayers in mosques and homes. They also pray for peace, unity, prosperity, and national security.

This night is commonly known as the Night of Forgiveness. It comes around two weeks before the start of the holy month of Ramadan. Muslims believe that on this night, Allah Almighty decides matters related to destiny for the coming year.

Because of its spiritual importance, worshippers spend the night in prayer and reflection. They seek forgiveness for past mistakes and mercy for themselves and others.
