Shandur Polo Festival Kicks Off Amid Highland Fanfare

The iconic Shandur Polo Festival has officially begun at the world’s highest polo ground, perched 12,000 feet above sea level in the scenic region of Shandur. The three-day spectacle celebrates tradition, competition, and culture in the heart of the Hindu Kush.

Jointly organized by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority, the Pakistan Army, and Chitral Scouts, the festival draws thousands of visitors from across Pakistan and abroad. It showcases not only exhilarating polo matches but also the unique heritage of the region.

The opening day featured an exciting clash between Chitral’s Sar Laspur and the Ghizer team from Gilgit-Baltistan, with Sar Laspur emerging victorious with a score of 6-3. The match set the tone for the days ahead, where fierce but friendly rivalry between Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan teams will be on full display.

Beyond polo, the festival offers folk music, cultural dances, and local cuisine, transforming the remote plateau into a vibrant hub of festivity. The Shandur Polo Festival continues to serve as a symbol of unity and tradition amid breathtaking landscapes.
