KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has formed a judicial commission to investigate the murder of young businessman Mir Raza.
The decision was announced on Monday following a request from the Sindh government.
The Chief Justice of the SHC nominated Justice Umar Sial to lead the commission. He will oversee the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The commission will examine the events connected to the murder. It will also look into relevant aspects of the case during its investigation.
The SHC directorate formally informed the Sindh Home Department about the commission. An official letter was issued regarding the decision.
Sindh Government Approved Judicial Commission
The Sindh government had earlier approved the formation of the judicial commission.
The proposal was approved through circulation among members of the Sindh cabinet. The cabinet also approved the Terms of Reference (TORs) for the investigation.
The TORs will provide the framework for the commissionโs inquiry. They will guide the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mir Razaโs death.
The original murder case was registered at Ferozabad Police Station in Karachi.
The development comes amid continued legal proceedings over the killing. The case has attracted attention due to demands for a detailed investigation.
Mir Raza Family Challenges Commission
Meanwhile, the family of slain Mir Raza has raised objections to the judicial commission.
The family filed a petition before the SHC challenging its formation. They have also sought a different investigation process in the case.
The petition was taken up by the high court on Monday. During the hearing, the court issued notices to all concerned parties.
The respondents have been directed to submit their responses by August 31.
The court will consider the responses before taking further action on the matter. The legal proceedings will determine how the investigation moves forward.
The Mir Raza case remains under judicial consideration. The newly formed commission is expected to examine the circumstances of the murder.
However, the familyโs challenge means the commissionโs role is also facing scrutiny before the SHC.
