A powerful gas cylinder explosion at a Shezan Bakers factory in Lahore’s Gulberg area killed one worker and injured eight others, causing significant damage to the building.

The incident occurred on Sunday at the factory located on Guru Mangat Road. According to initial information from Rescue 1122, the explosion took place in the baking section after gas reportedly leaked from a cylinder.

The blast triggered a fire and caused part of the building’s first floor to collapse. The force of the explosion was so strong that nearby buildings reportedly shook.

More than 40 employees were reportedly present inside the factory when the incident occurred, raising concerns about the safety of workers trapped in the damaged building.

Rescue 1122 teams and police personnel immediately reached the location and launched an emergency operation to evacuate employees and provide medical assistance to the injured.

The deceased worker was identified as 35-year-old Sajid, son of Fareed. He reportedly sustained critical injuries in the explosion and later died.

Rescue 1122 confirmed that eight other workers were injured and required medical attention. The injured employees included Saleem, Hanif, Nawaz, Munir and Ishtiaq, while the identities of the remaining victims were not immediately available.

Emergency responders faced difficult conditions due to the damaged structure, fallen debris and fire inside the premises.

Rescue personnel worked to remove affected workers from the building and prevent further casualties. Police also assisted with securing the area and managing the emergency response.

Initial reports suggested that gas had accumulated inside the baking section before the cylinder exploded. However, the exact cause of the incident remains subject to investigation.

The blast has raised fresh concerns about workplace safety in Lahore’s commercial and industrial facilities, particularly those using gas cylinders and heating equipment.

Regular inspection of gas connections, proper ventilation, leak detection systems and emergency evacuation arrangements are important measures for preventing such accidents.

The partial collapse of the factory’s first floor has also raised questions about the building’s structural condition and the safety arrangements in place for employees.

Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the explosion and determine whether appropriate safety requirements were followed.
