Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced on Monday that Sindh approves major railway projects to improve coal transportation from Thar to industrial hubs. The decision was made during a Sindh Cabinet session.
According to the Chief Minister, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in October 2025 between the Sindh government and the Railways Ministry. Under the agreement, a railway line will be constructed to transport coal efficiently from Thar.
The project includes a 105-kilometer railway track from Thar Coal to Chhor. Additionally, a nine-kilometer double-track railway line will connect Bin Qasim to Port Qasim for coal delivery to industrial areas, Murad Ali Shah stated.
Following the approval, Sindh approves the immediate release of Rs6.61 billion to initiate construction work. The funds are expected to ensure timely progress on the coal transport infrastructure.
The Sindh Chief Minister’s spokesman confirmed that the cabinet session considered 27 agenda points, with the railway project being a top priority. Officials emphasized that the initiative will boost economic activity and provide a smoother supply chain for coal-based industries.
“This railway project is a landmark step for energy and industrial development in Sindh,” Murad Ali Shah said. He added that the project would create jobs and strengthen regional connectivity.
The cabinet noted that the railway lines are part of the broader plan to optimize coal transport and reduce logistical challenges. With Sindh approves these projects, the provincial government aims to modernize the coal supply network and enhance energy security.
Construction of the railway tracks is expected to begin soon, with continuous monitoring to ensure timely completion. Authorities said that once operational, the new lines will significantly improve coal delivery efficiency from Thar to key industrial zones in Sindh.
