The Sindh government has decided to form a new Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the death of Mir Raza Ali. The move follows serious concerns raised by a judicial commission about the initial police investigation.

According to an official communication, the JIT will include senior representatives from intelligence agencies, Pakistan Rangers Sindh, and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

The provincial government has contacted the relevant institutions to nominate officers for the team. It has requested that the nominated officials hold Grade 18 or above positions.

The new team is expected to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death. The decision follows a judicial commission report that identified several shortcomings in the earlier investigation.

Judicial Commission Raises Questions About Police Probe

Mir Raza Ali’s body was found in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on July 29. Police initially treated his death as a suicide based on the preliminary post-mortem examination.

However, his family challenged that conclusion. They pointed to marks of violence on his body and raised concerns about other evidence.

The police surgeon later identified shortcomings in the initial post-mortem report. The surgeon recommended another examination to establish the cause of death more clearly.

Mir Raza Ali’s body was subsequently exhumed for a second post-mortem examination on August 8. The final report identified a bullet wound entering from the back as the cause of death.

The judicial commission questioned the decision to declare the death a suicide before resolving contradictions in the medical evidence. It also raised concerns about how police handled medical and digital evidence.

The commission recommended forming a new JIT to examine all aspects of the case. The team will be tasked with investigating the circumstances and addressing questions left unanswered by the earlier probe.

Sindh Government Seeks Action Against Officials

In a related development, the Sindh Home Department has written to the provincial inspector general of police. The department has requested action against police officers named in the judicial commission’s report.

The Home Department has also contacted the secretary of health regarding the commission’s observations. These steps follow the report’s findings about shortcomings in the handling of the case.

The official communications indicate that the government is addressing concerns involving both police procedures and medical evidence.

The new JIT is expected to play a central role in reviewing the available evidence. Its investigation will cover issues identified by the judicial commission.

Commission Submits Detailed Report to Chief Minister

The 70-page report was prepared by a judicial commission headed by Justice Umar Sial. It was submitted to the Sindh chief minister on October 15.

The commission held 20 meetings between August 27 and October 7. During this period, it recorded statements from 50 witnesses.

The report examined the police investigation, medical findings, and the handling of digital evidence. It highlighted concerns about the initial conclusion regarding the cause of death.

The commission also stressed that investigators should not ignore contradictions in medical findings when determining the circumstances of a death.

New JIT to Examine All Aspects of the Case

The formation of the new JIT marks a further step in the investigation into Mir Raza Ali’s death. The team will include representatives from several relevant institutions.

Its work is expected to address the concerns outlined in the judicial commission’s report. These include the initial police conclusion, the medical examination process, and the handling of evidence.

The case has raised questions about investigative procedures and accountability. The new JIT will be responsible for examining the available evidence and investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

The findings of the team may help clarify unresolved questions and guide further action by the relevant authorities.
