In a significant move for Karachi’s public transport network, the operational control of the Green Line and Orange Line bus services has officially been transferred to the Sindh government. During a ceremony at the Operational Command and Control Center in Garden, Karachi, CEO of PIDCL Wasim Bajwa handed over control to Sindh’s Transport Secretary Asad Zamin. The event was attended by key officials, including Kamal Dayo, MD of Sindh Mass Transit Authority, and representatives from both BRT systems.
Sindh’s Senior Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, addressed the gathering, emphasizing that this handover marks a major step towards improving the city’s public transport system. He assured that the Sindh government is committed to enhancing the bus services by incorporating modern technology and ensuring regular maintenance, aiming to provide better and more reliable travel options for the city’s residents.

Memon also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to develop a comprehensive urban transit system for Karachi. Plans are underway to connect the Green Line and Orange Line with other public transport systems, further streamlining the city’s transportation infrastructure.
Last week, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority Board had approved the takeover of the Green and Orange Line services in its 14th meeting, led by Memon. The board also discussed sending the relevant documents for legal validation and retaining the existing workforce for the next three months.
In addition to this development, the Sindh government has extended the operating hours of the Peoples Bus Service during Ramadan. From the 15th of the holy month, buses on key routes will operate until 1 AM, catering to the needs of Karachi residents who depend on public transport.
