Sindh Governor Overturns Harassment Case Punishment For K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has overturned the punishment awarded to K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi in a workplace harassment case, offering him major relief.

K-Electric notified the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) that the governor set aside the impugned order passed by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh against Moonis Alvi. The decision was made under Section 9 of the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010, after reviewing the case and hearing arguments from both parties.

In a statement, K-Electric said, โ€œThe Governor of Sindh has set aside the impugned order passed by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh.โ€

Reacting to the news, Moonis Alvi shared on X, โ€œAlhamdulillah, good to see this chapter coming to a rightful close. Grateful to all my family and friends who stood by me during this time.โ€

The original order was issued on July 31, 2025, by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Justice (R) Shah Nawaz Tariq. Alvi had been directed to be removed from his position and fined Rs 2.5 million after harassment allegations by Mehreen Zehra, a former K-Electric Chief Marketing Officer, were found valid.

Alvi challenged the Ombudsmanโ€™s decision in the Sindh High Court (SHC), which suspended the operation of the order. He also filed a representation with the Sindh governorโ€™s office, the designated forum for reviewing Ombudsman orders.

The complaint, filed by Mehreen Zehra, alleged that Moonis Alvi subjected her to harassment and mental distress during her consultancy work at K-Electric in 2019. The Ombudsman had warned that non-compliance with the penalty could lead to the seizure of Alviโ€™s assets and the blocking of his national identity card and passport.

With the governorโ€™s intervention, the order against Moonis Alvi has been nullified, allowing him to continue his duties as K-Electric CEO without any legal restrictions. Company officials welcomed the decision, stating that it provides clarity and stability to K-Electricโ€™s leadership.

This development ends months of legal uncertainty and public scrutiny surrounding the high-profile case.
