Sindh Govt Announces Public Holiday on July 29 for Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Urs

The Sindh Govt has announced a public holiday across the province on July 29, 2026, to observe the annual Urs of the renowned Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA). The holiday will allow people to participate in religious and cultural events held in his honor.

The announcement was made through an official notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department (SGA&CD). The notification confirmed that government offices and several public institutions will remain closed on the occasion.

According to the official order, all government and semi-government offices across Sindh will observe the holiday. The decision also applies to autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous organizations, local councils, and municipal authorities working under the provincial government.

The Sindh Govt issues such notifications every year to facilitate people attending the Urs celebrations. The annual event is one of the provinceโ€™s most important religious and cultural occasions and attracts thousands of visitors from different parts of Pakistan.

Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai is widely respected for his poetry, spiritual teachings, and message of peace, unity, and humanity. His shrine, located in Bhit Shah, becomes the center of celebrations during the annual Urs.

Large numbers of devotees are expected to visit the shrine on July 29. Religious ceremonies, Quran recitations, and prayers will be held to pay tribute to the revered Sufi saint. Visitors from various cities are also expected to attend the event.

Traditional Sindhi music performances will be another key feature of the celebrations. Musicians will perform Shah Abdul Latif Bhittaiโ€™s poetry using traditional instruments. Cultural programs highlighting Sindhโ€™s rich heritage are also expected to take place during the Urs.

Local authorities are likely to make special arrangements to manage the large crowds. Security personnel, traffic officials, and administrative teams are expected to remain on duty to ensure the smooth movement of pilgrims and visitors.

The public holiday will give employees of government institutions an opportunity to participate in the religious gatherings and cultural activities. Educational institutions and offices covered under the provincial government notification are also expected to remain closed.

The annual Urs is not only a religious event but also an important cultural tradition in Sindh. It promotes the teachings of tolerance, harmony, and love that Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai shared through his poetry.

Earlier, the province also approved an annual sports calendar featuring several major events. The latest holiday announcement reflects the government’s continued recognition of significant religious and cultural occasions across Sindh.

The Sindh Govt has advised all concerned departments to implement the official notification accordingly. Citizens planning to visit Bhit Shah are encouraged to follow local administrative guidelines and cooperate with authorities during the celebrations.
