Sindh Govt Takes Over Sarim Burney Trust Amid Trafficking Claims

The Sindh government has assumed control of the Sarim Burney Trust amid serious allegations of child trafficking. This decision comes in response to concerns raised by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), which detailed the trust’s alleged involvement in smuggling children to the United States and other countries. The oversight of the trust’s operations, including its Karachi orphanage, will now be managed by the Department of Social Welfare of Sindh.

Sarim Burney, the founder of the trust, has been accused of trafficking children, with charges stemming from a request by the U.S. Consulate. Burney was apprehended by the FIA on June 5 at Karachi Airport upon his return from the U.S. and remains in custody while the investigation continues. The charges reflect a significant breach of trust and concern for the safety of children.
